Who pays for what?

Setting a budget and deciding who is going to pay for what when planning a wedding can be a sticky subject.  As I mention in my book, traditionally the bride’s family paid for the majority if not all of the wedding.  Here is a list of which family paid for what traditionally speaking.  I also mention in my book that today is different and many couples are skipping traditions.  It is a known fact that people are getting married later in life, this also means that many couples are paying for some if not all of their wedding on their own since they are more financially stable.  It doesn’t matter who pays for what in the end, all that matters is that everyone who is contributing is comfortable with what they are contributing.  NEVER go into debt for a wedding, it is not worth it.  Keep communication with family members open and honest to avoid messy financial controversy.
